Entanglement Series
Paintings on Paper
The Entanglement Series is a collection of paintings on paper inspired by wisteria vines when they are dormant. The dangling vines, void of blossoms, are nature's idea of a scribble--abstract and organic at the same time.
I have described these gestures of vines using a wide array of mixed media including latex paints, newspaper and magazine images, oil sticks, pencil, marker and handmade paper. The oriental symbols in this series pay tribute to the influence Japanese objects such as woodblock prints, fabrics, gardens and composition had on the Impressionist painters specifically Monet's wisteria paintings from his garden in Giverny.
